Snow Europe freezes Mercato's largest winter bargain
The curtain was closed on the winter transfer period of 2019/2020 season, on Friday, when some of the major European clubs succeeded in strengthening their ranks with distinctive elements, while others were not up to the expectations of their fans.
We review the most prominent rumors that filled the world newspapers throughout the Mercato, as well as the unresolved deals after long negotiations.
Suarez Alternative
Barcelona was one of the leading clubs looking for an offensive deal, after the blow he had received in the absence of Uruguayan Luis Suarez, for a period of up to 4 months, after he underwent knee surgery.
The newspapers mentioned some of the nominated names for the Blaugrana, among them the Polish Christophe Biontec, but the latter left Milan two days ago, to join Hertha Berlin.
Other reports also talked about the possibility of Barcelona signing Gabonese Pierre Emeric Obamyang, the Arsenal striker, but these reports evaporated over time.
Barca moved in the official days of the Mercato to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno, but the deal stalled at the end, and the curtain was closed without the club including an alternative to Suarez.
Halland
Norwegian striker Erling Halland has been the talk of the media for the past several months, after his brilliance with the Austrian Red Bull Salzburg shirt.
He has been linked to a large number of clubs, including Juventus, Naples, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig and Manchester United.
Indeed, the Red Devils entered into formal negotiations with Salzburg, but things turned upside down, after the player traveled to Germany, where he negotiated with Leipzig and Dortmund.
Halland eventually joined the Festivals Lions, glowing with them and scoring 5 goals in the first two games.
Bill and Ken
In the last days of the Mercato winter, news emerged of a possible return of Welsh Gareth Bale, Real Madrid's star, to Tottenham Hotspur.
Some British newspapers celebrated this matter, before Zinedine Zidane, the Real coach, put an end to these rumors, confirming the continuation of Bell at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The reports also linked Tottenham to a massive number of attackers, to replace Harry Kane, who is expected to be out for a long time due to a hamstring injury.
Tottenham was associated with Brazilian Willian Jose, Real Sociedad striker, and Christophe Pontec before his departure from Milan.
But the Mercato is over, and Spears have not hired a new striker.
Cavani
Uruguayan Edinson Cavani, the Paris St Germain striker, was one of the possible departures last January, after newspapers linked him to the move to either Atletico Madrid, or the Premier League via Chelsea Gate or Manchester United.
Cavani has formally requested the departure of the Princes' Park towards Atlético, who has entered into intense negotiations with him.
But in recent days, the Spanish club decided to dismiss Cavani, after failing to reach a final agreement on it, to remain the former Naples star in Paris.
